ABOUT OMAN

===BACKGROUND===

The inhabitants of the area of Oman have long prospered on Indian Ocean trade. In the late 18th century, a newly established sultanate in Muscat signed the first in a series of friendship treaties with Britain. Over time, Oman's dependence on British political and military advisors increased, but it never became a British colony. In 1970, QABOOS bin Said al-Said overthrew the restrictive rule of his father; he has ruled as sultan ever since. His extensive modernization program has opened the country to the outside world while preserving the longstanding close ties with the UK. Oman's moderate, independent foreign policy has sought to maintain good relations with all Middle Eastern countries.

learning basic arabic words , numbers and phrases ..

Today i will be teaching some basic arabic words and phrases i know.For the past one year and half of working here in Oman, i have learned to speak few arabic words, which i wrote on my notebook for reference.Working in arab country is not that easy.First , you have to deal with the locals which not all can speak english, specially when you want to ride a taxi or even buying something in a store or asking something from a local.Second, about their culture, food and religion and some things not allowed here even if this is an open country.

Arabic language in Oman is a bit different from other arab countries according to my local coleague. Oman have different kinds of dialects.People living in Salalah ( few hours away from the capital city ) have their own arabic speaking too.People living in the mountains (Jebel) have their own too, but they all can understand each other in terms of communication.

So in case you have the opportunity to travel or work in the arab countries , you already have an idea or words to say when you arrive to your destination.

These are Omani arabic words.
